As a kid, my dream was to found a race car company. I was amazed by their shapes. But beyond beauty, form serves function through the science of aerodynamics. As a scientist today, I discuss how my laboratory is leveraging aerodynamics to explore drug delivery to the lungs and how race cars are my driver for new paradigm shifts in pulmonary therapy. Josué Sznitman (BSc, MIT 2002; Dr. Sc., ETH Zurich 2008) is a Swiss, French and Israeli national. He joined the Technion (Israel Institute of Technology) in 2010 and is currently a tenured Associate Professor of biomedical engineering focusing on respiratory physiology and drug delivery to the lungs. Sznitman has published over 60 peer-reviewed articles and is a co-inventor on several patents. Among his accolades, he was awarded the Young Investigator Award (2015) by the International Society of Aerosols in Medicine (ISAM) for a researcher under the age of 40 and most recently the 2018 Emerging Scientist Award in Drug Delivery to the Lungs (The Aerosol Society, UK). He is the co-founder of Gradtrain Ltd., an online education consultancy. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
